THE SILENCE

by Eliad Green.

/
1.
I stopped writing About a year ago I'm now forced To begin again My voice was taken Away from me They put it in A small sea shell In my silence I saw visions Rays of pink Coming out of your eyes I'd stopped writing When the well dried out Now I'm forced To begin Again.
2.
Stone by stone Lured into Breaking habits Drinking coffee. I don't blame you Reading headlines They are silencing us But you're too vague to notice. Blank squares timed Precisely to Mark the steps That lead towards
3.
FREE GROUND 03:00
You colour coded all the edges of the map So you won't Have to live a lie Have to live a lie Voted Green for truth but then your voice ran out So you needed to Pay the bill for somebody To fix you up. The price was very steep Then you couldn't keep up So you ran from this old town Packed away the animals And tied the noose around the last piece of free ground You could find. And did you see the neon lights calling you to hide Did you hear the men who tried to silence you with fright It's the last piece of free ground.
4.
Letters on the wall Writing fairy tales Of another home Where we don’t pay rent I cannot keep up I don’t know where i end These are my anxieties These are my farewells. Solid ground and stone Pushing to an end Comic anecdotes When lungs are failing Brown paper bags For when it’s all too much No more sympathies Now that the silence is here. The writing’s on the wall ‘Cause whispering is forbidden I have to count the words Before i let you in I apologise For my lack of patience But you’re hurting me Now that the silence is here.
5.
I have a safe place underneath the table, An ocean drum for when i play I have pills for when the acid rises I have strings to keep my mind away I write in BLOCK BLACK capital letters To excuse my need to explain I have eyes that keep wondering in patience What the * are the dues i left unpaid Meanwhile another year had gone My pen is green and so’s my name Until another time will come That’s just how long we get to stay here.
6.
SPOKEN WORDS 02:44
I climbed step by step like you told me to Held my liquor so i wouldn’t talk to you Kept you in a drawer for another day How much longer? I stole your spoken words, put them in my song I voted just for you, but i voted wrong Now the pigs are here and your mouth is gone How much longer? Is it bad today when i can’t shout out That you got it wrong, so i just pray not And in losing the battle we did lose the war For now I kept tidy and clean so when the soldiers come I won’t have to explain when i hide my rum Or my lack of faith Or why I don't pay my rent. And my mouth sewn tight so i have to write Why i’m so afraid of what you say, and fight ‘Cause they’ve silenced you like they’ve silenced me And no one really knows what’s wrong, what’s right Is it bad today, when they hit the button And the rockets fell, and we’ve forgotten That we’re all the same - blind mice flipped and framed In past tense.
7.
In a black box I hide awake. All my fears And my triumphs For when i’m noticed I hide away In my silence. I lie all the time Because it makes me special I put my bag In a time machine I left you bare I left you nameless Confronting silence.
8.
You’re not done It’s not on you It’s not the end, You’re not finished. All we have is aptitude Let’s tie loose ends Let’s tie loose ends. I’m not all That I wanted I’m not finished It’s not the end. All I’ve lost All I’ve stolen Let’s tie loose ends Let’s tie loose ends. Slowly cross This transformation Slowly climb Back up your tree You’re not done You’re not finished So tie loose ends Let’s tie loose ends (It’s not the end.)
